Our Church celebrated 100 years of existence at the Twenty-seventh General Council June 9 - June 14,1998.

​

We were elated and honored to have Bishop James E. Leggett of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC), along with Dr. Vinson Synan and Dr. Harold Hunter in attendance at our celebration.

​

We have a shared history with the IPHC. The IPHC held 2 celebrations in 1998. Bishop Fuller gave remarks at the 2nd celebration held in North Carolina in November, 1998. You will find pictures from our celebration and the IPHC's celebration on their web site. Be sure to browse the links on their site to understand the details of our shared history.

As part of our Centennial Celebration a Resource Package was developed by the Department of Religious Education. The packet also outlined Centennial Events for the year. Additionally, Bishop Frazier asked the entire church to fast and pray for 90 days starting in March. The Lord moved mightily in our midst during this time of devotion.

​

Continuing the celebration of our church history, the Southwest Ohio District buried a Time Capsule in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday October 23, 1999 during the Annual Convention. The Time Capsule Committee worked dilegently all year, climaxing at the Dedication Ceremony. All of our Bishops were on hand to throw the first Ceremonial shovels of dirt. The Time Capsule will be opened in the year 2024.

January 29, 1875

  • William Edward Fuller is born to George & Martha Fuller in Mountville, South Carolina.

1879

  • William E. Fuller orphaned at age 4.

  • Reared by his aunt, Mrs. Ida Fuller Vance. 

​​

1892

  • Bishop Fuller is Converted under the preaching of Brother W.T. Burgess and joins New Hope Methodist Church in Mountville, South Carolina.

  • Serves as Class Leader and a Steward.

1893

  • William E. Fuller is called to preach at age 18.
    Receives his License from Elder Lyte.

 

1895

  • William E. Fuller is Sanctified in a corn field.

 

1897

  • "Needing something more from God", Rev. Fuller goes to his private praying ground, the corn field one mile from his home, and agonizes until he receives the Baptism of the Holy Ghost and Fire.
    He does not know where this is spoken of in the Bible.

 

July 28 - August 8, 1898

  • Reads in the Way of Faith that the Fire Baptized Holiness Association is scheduled to meet in Anderson, South Carolina on August 1. 

  • Drives a mule, borrowed from his brother-in-law, 45 miles to attend the meeting.

  • Rev. W.E. Fuller is 23 years old.

  • Benjamin Irwin organizes the first General Council of the Fire Baptized Holiness Association in Anderson, South Carolina. Blacks are admitted with full equality. 

  • Rev. Fuller returns to New Hope, turns in his License and resigns his membership and offices.

  • Rev. W.E. Fuller starts with 2 member who live 9 miles apart.
    He later becomes Overseer of the Negro churches.

 

July 2, 1900

  • General Overseer H. King is appointed Bishop following the defection of Benjamin Irwin.

 

1905

  • Overseer Fuller is appointed to the Executive Board and serves as a trustee.

  • Overseer Fuller is 30 years old. 

 

1908

  • Overseer Fuller separates from the Fire Baptized Church (due to the growing trend of segregation) with an excess of 500 members and $25,000 in property along with Warrant Deeds for the same. 

 

November 24, 1908

  • First General Council of the Colored Fire Baptized Holiness Church in Greer, South Carolina.

  • Overseer Fuller becomes the General Overseer.

  • C.C. Chiles appointed Secretary and Treasurer.

  • Brother G.W. Gleen appointed as First Ruling Elder

  • Membership consists of:

    • 1 Ruling Elder

    • 16 Ordained Ministers

    • 50 Local Ministers

    • 27 Churches

    • 925 Members

 

1909

  • Bishop Fuller establishes The True Wittness.

 

1910

  • First Sunday School Convention held at New Zion Greenville, South Carolina.

 

1912

  • Bishop Fuller establishes Fuller Normal Industrial Institute.

 

1916

  • The Sisters of Charity is organized in Abbeyville, South Carolina.

  • Sister Caroline Wiliams Phelps appointed as 1st National Chairlady.

  • Mother L.E. Chiles appointed as 1st President.

 

1922 - 1926

  • The church is known as Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God.

June 8, 1926

  • The General Council convenes at Mt. Moriah in Knoxville, Tennesse.

  • The name of the church is changed to Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God of the Americas.

1946

  • Young Peoples' Institute founded by Sister Johnnie E. Fuller, 
    organized by Mother Emma Fuller, 1st National YPI Chairlady.

 

January 20, 1958

  • Bishop William E. Fuller dies nine days before his 83rd Birthday.

June 10 - June 15, 1958

  • The Seventeenth Quadrennial Session of the General Council meets in Greenville, South Carolina.

  • Five men are elevated to the Bishopric:

    • Bishop C.C. Chiles

    • Bishop G.G. Gary

    • Bishop C.A. Mills

    • Bishop E.Z. Bowman

    • Bishop W.E. Fuller Jr.

  • The Twentieth Quadrennial Session of the General Council meets in Greenville, South Carolina.

  • Elder Abraham L. McCracken is elected as Bishop and assigned to the Second Episcopal Diocese.

  • Elder Frank C. Canty is elected as Bishop and assigned to the Third Episcopal Diocese.

June, 1974

  • The Twenty-First Quadrennial Session of the General Council meets in Greenville, South Carolina.

  • The Jr. Mission arm of our church is established.

  • Sister Cleve Ann Mack is elected and assigned to direct the Jr. Mission activities of the Northern Districts.

  • Sister Pamela Elliott is elected and assigned to direct the Jr. Mission activities of the Southern Districts.

 

June, 1978

  • The Twenty-Second Quadrennial Session of the General Council meets in Greenville, South Carolina.

  • Elder Nathaniel T. Scott is elected as Bishop and assigned to the Third Episcopal Diocese.

 

June, 1982

  • The Twenty-Third Quadrennial Session of the General Council meets in Greenville, South Carolina.

  • Bishop Nathaniel T. Scott is assigned to the Second Episcopal Diocese.

  • Elder Julius J. Martin is elected as Bishop and assigned to the Third Episcopal Diocese.

June, 1994

  • The Twenty-Sixth Quadrennial Session of the General Council meets in Greenville, South Carolina.

  • Bishop N.T. Scott and Bishop J.J. Martin retire as Bishops Emeritus.

  • Elder Patrick Frazier Jr. is elected as Bishop and assigned to the Second Episcopal Diocese.

  • Elder N.J. Roach is elected as Bishop and assigned to the Third Episcopal Diocese.

  • Bishop W.E. Fuller Jr. remains as Bishop of the First Episcopal Diocese and Chairman of the Bishop Board.

  • National Supervisor Sis. Kaye W. Littlejohn is appointed National Chairlady of the Young People's Institute (YPI).

  • Sister Dimetri Braxton is appointed National Chairlady of the Jr. Mission Department.
